Not Long Now Until Daytona

Daytona Beach week is now a little more than a month away much to the delight of thousands of us who plan to be there. In fact, ever since Christmas I have been waiting to put on that new pair of riding glasses, hop onto my bike and head out on the road. The trouble with living in the northeast is that I have not been able to get my bike out since early November. So I have spent the past couple of months getting it ready for the new 2012 bike season and to be honest I just can’t wait.

When 8 March comes around, myself, a few friends and our ladies will be heading out. I can guarantee you the first five hours will be brutal cold, but I’ll be wearing a snow mobile suit, warm gloves, and a face mask. Once we turn off from Pennsylvania to Maryland we should be able to change into something a little more suited to the Daytona weather. That’s when the goggles will come off and the new riding glasses will go on. I can’t wait.

One of these years the wife and I are going to move to Florida permanently. That is another thing that I really can’t wait for. I’ve lived in the Northeast all my life, which is okay, but I can’t stand having such a short riding season. Riding all year round is something that I would prefer to be able to do. We will definitely only have one car when we finally leave the northeast. In fact, only really foul weather will be able force four wheels under our feet.

I’m assuming many of you reading this blog post are heading to Daytona next month as well. Most of us are looking forward to catching up with old friends and telling our favorite stories. But there is bound to be a few who have passed on and we will miss them dearly. Either way it’s going to be another great season.

If you are heading out to Daytona after a break in the season, you should remember to be safe and sensible when you ride. And if your wife got you a new pair of riding glasses for Christmas, bring them with you!
